How To Measure A Bolt Pattern

For vehicles that use 4, 6, or 8 lugs, the simplest way to find its inner diameter is to measure the distance between holes directly across from one another. Backspacing is the distance between the back of the rim flange and the mounting pad (where the hub attaches).

Look it up on this list below, or follow the diagram below that shows you how to measure your own.

How to measure a bolt pattern. The units in inches is otherwise mainly used in the usa when talking about classic cars, but also regarding newer vehicles and. To find your bolt pattern, measure the distance as accurately as possible and then find the corresponding bolt pattern in the conversion table below. The bolt pattern spacing can also be measured with a regular tape measure.

The diagrams below indicate the proper measuring methods. You can estimate the measurement by using a straight line from the backside of one hole to the center of the third bolt hole. The circle’s diameter is the bolt circle (6)” example:

Using the illustration below as guide, measuring backspacing. That should get you your bolt pattern measurement. You will need to know your atv or utv bolt pattern.

Common bolt patterns are 4, 5, 6, or 8 lug holes. Bolt patterns with an even number of lugs are measured from bolt center to bolt center while 5 lug bolt patterns are measured from the top of the upper lug to the center of the lower lug. A 4 bolt wheel with 100mm between opposite bolt holes would be written as 4/100. Your ruler goes across the. If there are 4,6 or 8 studs, simply measure the center to center distance between two studs that are across the hub from each other.

Measure from the middle of one stud to the outside of the second stud (skipping a stud). Atv & utv bolt pattern guide. If you have 5 or 7 studs, you will have to take an extra step to determine the bolt pattern.

Measure from the center of one lug holes to the. Now, measuring the 5 bolt rim is not that easy as 4 bolt rim. Measure distance between the center of both bolt holes.

Measure the diameter of the bolt hole (1/4″) select 2 bolt opposite bolt holes. These two steps together will give you your bolt hole pattern. When measuring your atv's bolt pattern you will want to check both the front and rear.

Measuring your atv's bolt pattern: Pull it across to the bolt on the exact opposite side, covering the middle opening with your measuring tape. Measure center to center of two holes directly across from each other.

Bolt pattern the arrangement of the bolt holes on a wheel.

So if you see 4 1/2 inches, you have a 5 on 4 1/2 ( also 5×4.5 and 5×114.3) bolt pattern. 5x114.3 mm is also referred to as 5x4.5). For a 4 lug wheel, measure center to center of two holes directly across from each other.

If you need the 4, 6 or 9 lug page look here how to measure 4, 6 or 8 lug wheel bolt pattern if you want a more accurate approach check out the wheel bolt circle calculators Measure the bolt pattern from the center of the first hole to the center of the second hole. A common measurement for a 5 bolt pattern is 120 millimetres (4.7 in) from the top of 1 lug to the center of another.

That measurement is your bolt pattern diameter. Some wheels have more than one bolt pattern on the same wheel to accomodate multiple fitments. You measure from the back of one lug (skip to next lug as shown) and to the center of that lug.

The closest you can get is to measure from the center of one lug to the outer edge of the lug farthest away. Remember, the diameter of circle may vary. Bolt patterns can be 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 lug holes, however tuner applications are typically 4 or 5 lug.
