How To Feed A Ratchet Strap

While both ratchet straps and cam buckle straps are used to haul various types of cargo and come in sizes ranging from 1″ to 4″ in width, there are some key differences between the two. To close the ratchet, pull and hold the release tab.

Position the release lever facing you, with the strap already attached to it towards the back.

How to feed a ratchet strap. Lift up the ratchet handle and axle simultaneously, so that the open slot is pointing up. A slot on the front of the ratchet should now be open, making it possible to feed the webbing strap into the mechanism. Lock the strap securely by flipping the ratchet back into the closed position.

An easy way to thread a ratchet strap is to visualize the greater than and less than signs with their points touching, like this: Once the slack has been reasonably removed, begin ratcheting the fastener up and down until the strap is suitably tight. Hook the other hook on.

Pull the strap end up, tight, to take up the slack, then start to crank the ratchet. Endless ratchet straps are great for applications requiring a ratchet strap to wrap around an object and be able to feed itself back into the ratchet and crank it tight. This requires a little muscle and finesse to unjam.

Webbing will wind itself and be locked in place so that further ratcheting will rapidly increase tension in strap. Feed a ratchet strap through a piece of rubber hose. Attach the fixed end ratchet strap to the trailer or truck.
